Fusion Rotary Axis Post Processor

Rotary axes are where posts most often go wrong: wrong direction, unexpected full turns, hitting limits mid-cut or forgetting to clamp. We build and fix Fusion posts so A, B and C axes move correctly on rotary tables, trunnions and heads.

Getting rotary motion right

A rotary axis has more settings than a linear one. Which axis is it (A, B or C), and around which linear axis does it turn? Is it on the table or the head? Does positive rotation match the machine's convention? Is it continuous or limited? Should it take the shortest path, or always rotate one way? Does it need clamping? Does the control expect degrees per minute or inverse time feed during simultaneous moves?

ENGIMANDI configures and codes rotary axes in Fusion posts. We define each axis in the machine configuration with correct direction, range and resolution, set preferred solutions and rewind behaviour at limits, add clamp and unclamp codes, handle wrapped (cylindrical) toolpaths on 4th axes, and output feeds the control expects. We verify everything in Fusion machine simulation and on the machine.

Read rotary table post processors, rotary axis limits and rewind logic and inverse time feed for multi-axis.

FAQ

Rotary axis questions

Why does my rotary spin the wrong way?

Usually the axis direction in the post or machine definition does not match the machine. We correct the definition.

Why does the table make a full turn?

Often a path or range setting. We set preferred solutions and ranges to avoid unwanted turns.

What is a rewind?

When a limited axis reaches its limit, the tool must retract so the axis can unwind. The post can do this safely.

Do we need inverse time feed?

Many controls prefer it during simultaneous rotary moves. We use what your control expects.

What about 5-axis?

See 5-axis posts and TCP/RTCP posts.
