Two programming worlds
| Mazatrol conversational | EIA/ISO G-code |
|---|---|
| Created at the machine through menus | Created by CAM post processors |
| Ideal for simple prismatic and turned parts | Required for complex 3D and 5-axis surfaces |
| Machine calculates toolpaths | CAM calculates toolpaths |
| Easy operator editing | Full control over every move |
Most CAM-driven work on Mazak machines runs as EIA/ISO programs. Some shops mix both: Mazatrol for simple features, CAM-generated EIA/ISO for complex surfaces.
Mazak control generations
Mazatrol controls have evolved through many generations, including Matrix, SmoothG, SmoothX and SmoothAi. Available EIA/ISO functions, smoothing options and multi-axis features differ between them, so the post is matched to the specific control.
What a Mazak EIA/ISO post handles
- Tool call conventions and tool data matching the Mazak tool file.
- High-speed smoothing functions available on the control.
- Tilted plane and tool centre point output for 5-axis machines (Variaxis, Integrex).
- Mill-turn modes on Integrex: turning, milling, B-axis head and sub-spindle.
- Mazak-specific M-codes for coolant, clamps and machine functions.

We deliberately keep control-specific codes as placeholders here: Mazak codes vary by model and control generation and are taken from the machine's own programming manual.
On Mazak machines, CAM and Mazatrol work best together, each where it is strongest.
