HMC features that affect the post
| Feature | Post impact |
|---|---|
| B-axis table (index or full 4th axis) | Indexing, clamping, continuous B moves |
| Pallet changer | Pallet change codes, program per pallet |
| Tombstone fixtures | Multiple parts and work offsets per face |
| Large tool magazine | Tool pre-select, tool life and sister tools |
| Long tools | Safe B index clearance checks |
Work offset strategies
- One offset per face: simple, but many offsets to set.
- Rotating work offset / dynamic offset: one offset at the B centre; controller rotates it with B (if supported).
- Post-calculated offsets: post computes positions from B centre data.
Operation ordering
For tombstones, the post (or CAM) can order operations by tool across all parts and faces, minimising tool changes, or by part, which simplifies restarts. The choice depends on batch size and reliability requirements.
(Ordered by tool)
T1: Face 0 parts 1-4, Face 90 parts 1-4
T2: Face 0 parts 1-4, Face 90 parts 1-4
(Ordered by part)
Part 1: T1, T2, T3 ... then Part 2 ...
Automation-ready output
- Pallet-specific programs called from a master program.
- Tool breakage detection after critical tools.
- Probing to confirm part presence and position.
On an HMC, the post processor is part of the production system.
