Kinematics in the Fusion post
| Machine type | Example | Configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Table-table (trunnion) | A/C or B/C trunnion | Two table axes, pivot offsets |
| Head-table | B head + C table | One head axis, one table axis |
| Head-head | A/C or B/C fork head | Two head axes, pivot length |
var bAxis = createAxis({coordinate: 1, table: true, axis: [0, 1, 0], range: [-120, 120], preference: 1});
var cAxis = createAxis({coordinate: 2, table: true, axis: [0, 0, 1], cyclic: true});
machineConfiguration = new MachineConfiguration(bAxis, cAxis);
TCP vs non-TCP output
With TCP (for example FANUC G43.4, Siemens TRAORI, Heidenhain M128/TCPM, Haas G234), the post outputs tool tip positions and the controller compensates. Without TCP, the post must calculate machine positions from kinematics, which requires exact pivot dimensions and ties the program to the setup.
3+2 with tilted work planes
(FANUC tilted plane example)
G68.2 X0. Y0. Z0. I0. J45. K0.
G53.1
G00 X10. Y10.
G43 H05 Z30.
(... 3-axis cutting in tilted plane ...)
G69
Fusion posts can output 3+2 operations either with the controller's tilted plane function or as rotated coordinates, controlled by a post property.
Rotary limits and solution choice
Most 5-axis heads and tables have two possible rotary solutions for each tool orientation. The post chooses the preferred solution, respects limits and inserts safe retract and re-orientation moves when an axis would exceed its limit.
Simulate before cutting
Always simulate 5-axis programs on a full machine model with correct fixtures before cutting. Fusion machine simulation helps, and dedicated tools such as VERICUT verify the posted G-code itself.
In 5-axis, a small kinematic error becomes a big collision. Configure carefully, simulate always.
