NX post tools
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Post Builder | Long-standing graphical tool producing .tcl, .def and .pui files |
| Post Configurator | Newer configuration-based approach built on Siemens post libraries |
| Tcl customisation | Custom procedures for logic beyond the graphical tools |
| Integrated simulation (ISV / CSE) | Machine simulation driven by the posted NC code |
Event-driven posting
NX posts respond to events generated from the CAM operation. Each event has a handler and MOM (Manufacturing Output Manager) variables carrying the data.
proc MOM_start_of_program {} {
MOM_output_literal "(PROGRAM: $::mom_group_name)"
}
proc MOM_tool_change {} {
global mom_tool_number
MOM_output_literal "T$mom_tool_number M06"
}
proc MOM_linear_move {} {
MOM_do_template linear_move
}
Handler and variable names shown here are illustrative; generated posts contain many more events and templates.
User defined events (UDEs)
UDEs let programmers insert machine-specific actions from within NX, such as probing, coolant options, clamping or special comments, which the post turns into the right NC code.
Why customise NX posts
- Match complex 5-axis and mill-turn machines exactly.
- Use controller features: TRAORI, CYCLE800, G43.4, tilted planes.
- Add company standards and documentation.
- Drive accurate machine simulation from the same configuration.
Simulation with ISV and CSE
NX Integrated Simulation and Verification can simulate the machine using the posted G-code with a Common Simulation Engine (CSE) controller model, making it possible to verify post output inside NX before cutting.
NX gives you enormous control over post output. The skill is using that control consistently.
