What a 3-axis Fusion post must handle
- Program header, tool list and safe start block.
- Tool change with pre-select, G43 length offset and spindle start.
- Work offsets (G54–G59 and extended offsets).
- Arcs in XY, XZ and YZ planes, helical moves.
- Drilling, peck, tapping and boring cycles.
- Cutter compensation (G41/G42) for 2D contours.
- High-speed smoothing modes for 3D adaptive and finishing.

Useful 3-axis post properties
| Property | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Sequence numbers on/off | Match operator preference and memory limits |
| High-speed mode | Enable controller smoothing for 3D toolpaths |
| Pre-select next tool | Reduce tool change time |
| Safe retract (G28 / G53 / clearance) | Match machine and shop standard |
| Use subprograms for patterns | Shorter programs for repeated features |
Routers and hobby-grade controllers
CNC routers often use different controllers (for example Mach, LinuxCNC or router-specific controllers) with their own requirements: no tool changer, manual tool change pauses, specific spindle or vacuum codes. The post handles these differences.
A good 3-axis post is invisible: programs just run.
