Revit API & Add-in Development in C#

We build Revit add-ins that automate modelling, documentation and data tasks, with clean ribbon tools and dockable panels your BIM team will actually use, and code that is ready for new Revit releases.

Professional Revit add-ins, built the right way

The Revit API lets .NET code read and change almost every element in a model: walls, floors, families, parameters, views, sheets, schedules and more. Add-ins are loaded through .addin manifest files and appear as external commands and applications on the Revit ribbon. Dynamo and pyRevit are useful for quick scripts, but a compiled add-in is the best choice for tools that must be fast, stable and easy to deploy across a company.

ENGIMANDI writes Revit add-ins in C# with proper transaction handling, element filtering for performance, extensible storage for custom data and updaters for automatic reactions to model changes. Revit 2025 moved the API to .NET 8, so we plan projects that can target both older and newer Revit versions from one codebase. For web and server scenarios, we use Design Automation for Revit on Autodesk Platform Services.

See our Revit API automation guide and Revit API for BIM automation.

FAQ

Revit add-in questions

Should we use Dynamo or a Revit add-in?

Dynamo is great for quick, project-specific scripts. Add-ins are better for company-wide tools that need speed, a proper UI and controlled deployment.

Will our add-in work in Revit 2025 and later?

Revit 2025 moved to .NET 8, so older add-ins must be rebuilt. We upgrade existing add-ins and set up builds for multiple versions.

Can Revit run without a desktop?

Yes. Design Automation for Revit runs add-in code in the cloud for batch processing and web applications.

Does the add-in work with cloud worksharing on ACC?

Yes. Add-ins work with local and cloud workshared models, following Revit's worksharing rules.

Do we own the code?

Yes. You receive the full source code and documentation.
